The Farrer League will hold their annual presentation night at The Rules Club on Wednesday night, where May will be one of the favourites to take out the first grade best and fairest vote count.
May has enjoyed an outstanding season for the Saints, highlighted by his win in the Player of the Year award, voted weekly by the coaches.
May believes there will be too many North Wagga players polling votes to see a Saint take home the Medal.
“I wouldn’t have thought so, mainly because of how well spread our team is,” May said of his chances.
“Especially this year, through the midfield you’ve got Tom Bennetts, Corey Watt, Cayden Winter, who will all poll votes. We’re pretty even.”
May, who played 14 of the 16 home and away games, will look to become one of the youngest winners of the award at 21 years of age.
The dynamic midfielder is happy with the season he has produced.
“I’m pretty stoked actually,” he said.
“I got pretty lucky, I haven’t had any niggles or injuries or anything like that which has put me in good stead.
“This year everyone has just backed each other, the boys have put faith in me and Kirk’s been great, giving me a role in the midfield. He had a talk to me at the start of the year and explained the role he wanted me to do and all the boys have put their faith in you to just do your thing and it’s worked so far.”
East Wagga-Kooringal ruckman Nick Hull finished one vote behind May in the Player of the Year, while Temora forward Matt Wallis was third.
May believes Hull is the one to beat and also mentioned Barellan midfielder Shaun Ellis as a ‘smokey’.
“Hully stands out week in, week out for East Wagga so I think he’s the big danger going into it,” he said.
As for his Saints, they will take on Temora in Saturday’s preliminary final at Robertson Oval.
May is confident North Wagga can secure a spot in the grand final for the first time since 2004.
“I’m backing us 100 per cent to bounce back,” he said.
“As long as the vibe is up all week at training and we can carry that momentum into the weekend. The weather is meant to be nice and sunny so we should be able to run and use the footy.”
