The Bulls second rower beat out a number of his teammates, including fullback Harry Lucas, to be named best in the grand final on Saturday.
He thought it was good reward for a tough season.
“I didn’t expect it but it makes it easier when we’ve pretty much got a first grade side there,” Jones said.
Part of Southcity’s success last year, he was pleased to go back-to-back.
“We’ve got the same squad pretty much which makes it easy,” he said.
Kangaroos levelled things with Southcity earlier in the second half.
Jones was pleased with the team’s composure to continue their charge towards another title.
“I thought we were a bit more composed and probably a little bit fitter too, which helped,” he said.
“It was a bit slippery out there which made it hard.”
