With the NRL game locked in for next season, and for 2020, the injured Raiders captain is looking forward to spreading the game.
He knows how important it is for the region, and to many of his teammates as well.
“Being a country kid it’s a game you look forward to,” Croker said. “We’ve had two games in Bathurst and one in Mudgee this year and I know the boys all enjoy it.
“We’ve got a lot of country boys in the side and all enjoy coming out here, mixing with the locals and it is great.
“I’ve played a game here before and know how good the crowd is so I;m really looking forward to it.”
Growing up in Goulburn, the 27-year-old understands the role NRL clubs can play to inspire and foster young talent.
He believes having the Centre of Excellence, which is being supported by Wagga City Council, will help Riverina’s talent take the next step.
“As a kid in Goulburn it was either Sydney one way or Canberra the other way, and for me it was always Canberra,” Croker said.
“It is a big country town and the Centre of Excellence is really going to help kids know that if you leave Wagga, you leave Goulburn, you leave those places and you are going to a pretty similar place.
“Canberra is a big country town and with the Centre of Excellence you are going to have better opportunities, if not the same, as in Sydney.”
