Williams returned from a pre-season achilles injury for the Giants’ reserves in the North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL) last Saturday.
He showed little signs of rust, picking up 30 possessions, seven inside 50s and laying seven tackles in the Giants’ 56 point loss to Sydney.
“There was a few nerves last night, I couldn’t sleep but it’s good to be back out and running around and to get through today was a treat,” Williams told the Giants website.
“I’m just happy I got through the game today.”
Giants development coach Damian Truslove said Williams won’t be far away from an AFL return.
“Fantastic for him to get through the game, and he’ll now be knocking on the door for an AFL game,” Truslove said.
