Okerenyang took out the NSW state final of the Gatorade 100 series at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night, before the AFL game between Greater Western Sydney and Sydney Swans.
The Coolamon footballer blew his opposition away to win two tickets to the AFL grand final and also qualify for the national final on the same day.
Okerenyang will now compete in the Gatorade 100 national final, for amateur footballers across the country aged between 14-18, on AFL grand final morning at the MCG.
If he can run in the first two, he will get the opportunity to take on the AFL’s fastest in the half-time grand final sprint.
Coolamon president Derek Owens said the club is extremely proud of Okerenyang.
“If he races anywhere near his best, I think he’ll beat the AFL players. We’re really happy for him,” Owens said.
“We’re hoping although it hasn’t been a stellar season on the field or the hot mix for us this year that we still might be able to see the Coolamon colours going around on the MCG on grand final day.
“We’re real proud of him. Not only is he a great athlete and great footballer, but he’s a terrific kid.”
Okerenyang, 15, made his senior debut for Coolamon in the Riverina League game against Wagga Tigers earlier this month.
