Rather than dealing in games, the two schools deal in soccer premierships.
Wagga High and Mater Dei share five of the seven premierships contested since the Creed Shield was first introduced.
Now, after sharing the spoils across 2016 and 2017, the two schools will lock horns in a third consecutive Creed Shield decider with the result to finally determine which Wagga institution can claim dominance on the soccer pitch.
“It should be a really good game,” competition coordinator Nathan Irvine said.
“They (Mater Dei and Wagga High) have contested the past few grand finals so we’re expecting a quality game.”
Wagga High prevailed 3-1 in last year’s decider against Mater Dei to erase the memory of their 2016 grand final defeat, a 3-1 loss to the same opposition.
A win at Gissing Oval on Wednesday night would see Wagga High clinch their fourth title and step clear of Mater Dei (2), The Riverina Anglican College (1) and inaugural winners Kooringal High School (1).
Meanwhile, the Sydney FC Cup grand finals have been rescheduled to next month to avoid clashing with other interschool competitions.
