Port Stephens MP Kate Washington was set to attend a public meeting at Forest Hill to share the experiences of her electorate, following Department of Defence investigations into the toxic spread of the chemicals at RAAF Base Williamtown.
It comes after the department launched its second investigation across Wagga this month.
Growing concern about the impact of the persistent and possibly carcinogenic chemicals prompted a call for “someone to explain in human terms” what its migration through surface and groundwater meant for Forest Hill, Gumly Gumly, Kapooka and Wagga residents.
Ms Washington sent her apologies to Wagga, following the cancellation of the meeting that was set for 2pm on Sunday, August 19.
In a Facebook post, she said:
“Bushfires have been raging in my electorate of Port Stephens and whilst the risk remains, so do I.
“I’m really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but I know Wagga Wagga residents understand too well, the devastation bushfires can cause communities”.
