The Blaze had a perfect 2-0 record over the Mustangs this season but left it late in their third encounter of the year.
Uncharacteristically, the Blaze trailed at every break and were nine points off the pace with just five minutes to play before a last-gasp rally from Shakera Barnes sealed the win.
Barnes (19 points) and Steph Male (14 points) kept the scoreboard ticking over for Peter O’Leary’s side while Khiani Clark (10 points), Abbey Morton (10 points) and Maddison Clyne (9 points) did the legwork in their must-win semi final.
A relieved Male told The Daily Advertiser she was happy to have won on Saturday afternoon.
The Blaze must now front up for a date with minor premiers Coffs Harbour in Sunday afternoon’s grand final.
