The Wagga side had dominated all season, setting a record for their point scoring prowess, and showed just why on the biggest day of the year with a 52-14 win over Ag College.

Aggies threatened to comeback in the second half before Waratahs clicked into another gear.

They scored four tries in the last 17 minutes to runaway with their second unbeaten premiership in three seasons.

After going so close last year, Waratahs captain Tim Corcoran was thrilled to come away with the win.

“We knew we had to hung in there, they were always going to play the whole game and they didn’t stop,” Corcoran said.

“The first 10 minutes was just a crazy pace and it was pleasing to see the boys show patience, do exactly what we train to do and just execute it on the day.”

Waratahs had most of the early ball and made Ag College pay when Harry Hosegood scored off the back of a scrum after 15 minutes.

Four minutes later Chris Murray doubled their lead as he carried defenders over the line to score.

Murray crossed for his second just before half-time to give Waratahs a 19-0 lead.

Ag College had limited opportunities with the ball in the first half and the second didn’t start any better as Corey Toole scored 38 seconds into the second half.

However they responded with two quickfire tries to get themselves back into the contest.

Mike van Diggelen scored from close range before Murray was handed a yellow card.

Jock Ward took advantage of the numerical advantage and suddenly Ag College had all the momentum trailing 26-14.

But it was short lived.

Four minutes later the competition’s leading tryscorer Blake Hart crossed as Waratahs finished with a flourish.

Corcoran then made a break in his own half before putting James Grimmett away.

Speedsters Toole and Hart then scored in the rout.

Corcoran was pleased with how Waratahs responded.

“They got a bit of momentum with two in a row, and we knew they had that in them, but is was good to turn it back around,” he said.

“It was a credit to our boys with their maturity and patience.

“Calmness was key.”

For coach Richard Skellern it was the perfect finish.

He’ll hand over the coaching responsibilities next season and was thrilled to complete a massive day for the club with the three men’s premierships.

“It was an amazing culmination for the season with all three grades in and all three grades winning,” Skellern said.

Going through undefeated made it even more special.

“It is the best feeling ever,” he said.

“These guys are cool, they’re calm and they’re quite collected.

“They get rattled occasionally but know how to get their way out of it and I’m really proud of the boys.”
