Third grade super-sub Ruben Waters was the only one surprised by his Man of the Match honours after starring in Waratahs' 20-15 grand final win over Hay.
The McMullen Cup was deservedly Waratahs’ for the taking but it wouldn’t have been possible without their bench and Waters in particular.
Waters made an immediate impact after getting the green light from coach John Serong and expertly scrapped his side back into the game.
The rangy reserve was more focused on the team's overall result and admitted it had been a "tough" game against the highly touted Cutters.
"It was a bit rough in the middle and things didn't go our way at times," Waters said.
"We just kept on working and we got there in the end."
Waters was a constant threat for Waratahs in the big dance, putting his body on the line and driving his team ahead during their thrilling 20-15 win.
