The wet weather on Saturday didn’t dampen the NSW TAFE Open Day, with loads of fun activities on offer all with the aim of luring prospective students.

Having left school this year Rohan Mungai, 17, said the barista and music performance courses captured his attention.
“I think what separates TAFE from university is that it’s a lot more affordable, more skills-based and less pressure,” he said.
“I’m really liking the atmosphere in here and the design of the building is really appealing, there’s a good feel.”
A range of courses were on display for future students, from the art programs, to health and community services, English language courses and primary industries and agricultural areas.
TAFE’s regional general manager Kerry Penton, said the open day has tried to showcase a “cross-section” of courses on offer.
“It’s all about people across Wagga learning about all the sorts of courses we offer at TAFE NSW, particularly at our Wagga campus and to get a real sense of the careers they’re looking at,” she said.
“We know that students who study with TAFE are more likely to get a job, because they’ve got skills and are ready to go as soon as they’ve finished.”
The open day was also holding a fundraiser, Buy a Bale, to support the drought-stricken farmers.
“We live and work in regional NSW so we feel the drought like everyone else and a lot of our staff and our students live and work on the land and part of our community,” Ms Penton said.
