The man pleaded not guilty to all 25 assault charges, which he is alleged to have committed against his four nieces aged between five and 13 from 2000 to 2012.
In Wagga District Court on Tuesday, a now 23-year-old woman gave evidence of her uncle assaulting her on multiple occasions when she was aged between five and nine.
The woman told the court that she was five-years-old when her uncle made her lie on the floor of the family bathroom before attempting to have sexual intercourse with her for the first time.
The abuse allegedly continued over the following three to four years, when the woman said she was sexually and indecently assaulted on at least three more occasions.
During the first day of the judge-alone trial, the woman told the court she had tried to tell her mother about the abuse, but she did not believe her.
“All I told her was that [he] was touching me, and she told me ‘don't be stupid, he's your uncle’,” she said.
“[He] told me not to say anything, because I thought I was going to get into trouble.”
The woman gave evidence on a total of 13 charges on Tuesday, and her three sisters are expected to give evidence on the remaining 12 charges in the coming days.
The trial continues.
