The Riverina rice grower, founded by Peter Randall and based in Murrami near Leeton, was awarded gold for the category ‘From the Earth’ at the 2018 Delicious Produce Awards.
Mr Randall said the achievement was further validation of the team’s hard work.
“We’ve been farming for 30 years and it was only since 2009 we began selling directly to customers, so it’s good to be recognised,” he said.
The business received the award for its Jasmine rice – long grain and high in GI.
In 2017, it received the same award for its Koshihikari rice – soft and sticky.
Mr Randall said the feedback he received from judges and chefs, including a 20-year veteran, were positive.
The business just missed out on the national trophy in that category.
However, Mr Randall said that to be in the top five nationally was still a positive.
“It was still great to be in the top five out of 3000 to 4000 entrants,” he said.
Looking to the future, Mr Randall said they were keen on improving.
“We’ll be looking at continuous improvements, but the key factor is the weather and drought,” he said.
“It’s our biggest challenge – depending on how that goes, we’ll see if we can expand our customer base,” he said.
