Lake Albert became the second team in as many weeks to stumble against bottom-placed United after slumping to a 3-1 loss at Rawlings Park on Sunday.
It follows the previous round’s surprise win over finals-bound South Wagga.
Wagga United president Ian Hardinge said the women had been the club’s “big improvers” in the back half of the year and hailed their growing team bond.
“They’re starting to gel and they’re working together really well,” Hardinge said.
“The past few weeks in particular have shown the girls can play good footy and it looks like they’re really enjoying themselves.
“It’s quite a young squad with a few new players, so while we know there’s probably going to be a few who move on next year, we’re hopeful that the majority will stay on for next season.”
The result picked United off the bottom of the ladder while the Sharks slide into seventh place.
Meanwhile, Cootamundra kept their slender finals hopes alive with a gritty win over Junee at O’Connor Park.
The Strikers clawed their way back into the knockout frame, edging the Jaguars 2-1 to the delight of a vocal home crowd, while Tolland and Henwood Park will play this weekend after rescheduling their fixture.
