Pupils at the Ashmont Goodstart Early Learning Centre eagerly donned their flannels, hats and boots in the fundraising day ‘Fiver for a Farmer’.
Educator Jemma Coates said it was important for children to learn where fresh produce comes from and the struggles farmers will often face.
“Today is about awareness for the children in our community,” she said.
“Obviously not a lot of them are exposed to farms and where they’re food comes from.”
It hasn’t been a one-time event, with the educators spending the last couple of weeks teaching the pupils lessons ranging from the definition of silos to how food ends up in the supermarket.
“They need to know how viable farmers are for us,” she said.
“We have visuals of dams in the last few years and how different they are now.”
