Beck McCallum spends her spare time taking pictures of all the starry sky has to offer.
“The camera picks up what the eye human can’t,” she said.
“Taking photos of the stars and galaxy is unique and I am starting to see it become more popular around Wagga.”
Ms McCallum shared three tips to snap the perfect night-time shot of the universe.
1. Invest in the equipment
You have to have the right camera, so a DSLR, with a wide-angle lens.
2. Be patient and experiment
It can take a bit of time to find the perfect spot and you will need to play with the camera settings a bit. Don’t expect to get the perfect shot on the first go.
Play around with it and have fun, don’t get bogged down in the ‘technical side’.
3. Pick a good location
I always head away from the city and the pollution to get clear skies.
I remember when I got my first camera and out of town away from pollution and captured the Milky Way. I was so excited.
4. Know how lighting and exposure works.
I use exposure, it’s all about exposure and ISO.
The colours are enhanced in Photoshop, but you need to get that initial shot correctly.
