Okerenyang won his heat of the Gatorade 100 Sprint Series in Sydney on Monday night that puts him one race away AFL grand final day.
The Gatorade 100 Sprint Series is a new competition to find the fastest amateur footballer, aged 14-18 years, in Australia.
The fastest two teenage footballers will get the chance to compete against the AFL’s quickest in the traditional half-time sprint on grand final day.
After winning his heat on Monday night, Okerenyang must return to Sydney next week to race in the state final.
A top-two finish in the state final will qualify Okerenyang for the national final and also win himself two tickets to the AFL grand final, as well as return flights and accommodation.
If he can finish first or second in the national final, he will get the chance to don the Coolamon colours in the AFL grand final sprint.
Okerenyang plays under 17s at Coolamon and represented NSW-ACT Rams under 16s this year.
As part of the state heat on Monday night, he was able to meet Sydney Swans stars Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin and Aliir Aliir.
