A sea of students from Ashmont Public School kicked off Book Week, dressed in many characters from princesses to superheros.

Ashmont Public School teacher, Annette Apps said the book parade is a “fantastic time” for the students.
“It gives the children an opportunity to dress as their favourite book character and gives them a chance to express themselves,” she said.
Ms Apps said Harry Potter costumes always stand out, as do Where’s Wally; and princess costumes a popular choice for the Kindergarten students.
“What’s always coming through are the new movies each year, so the Harlequins are coming through a lot now, but traditional costumes like Peter Rabbit are making a bit of a comeback,” she said.
The official NSW Book Week starts on August 17 and this year’s theme is ‘find your treasure’.
Assistant librarian at Kooringal Public School, Elaine Tokley said costumes this year will depend on how children and parents “interpret” the treasure.
Ms Tokley said the most popular books have been Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid; Treehouse Series, by Andy Griffiths and the Grimsdon series by Deborah Abela.
