The Goannas were forced to come from five goals down to defeat the Eagles, 16.8 (104) to 11.4 (70) at Mangoplah Sportsground.
Narrandera kicked six goals to one in the opening quarter to establish a 27-point lead at quarter-time and were still nine points up at the main break.
But an 11-goal second half from the Goannas helped them record a much-needed win.
Stand-in MCUE coach Ryan Price was relieved to get the four points.
“We got jumped out of the blocks and they couldn’t miss, every time they went down there they’d score,” Price said.
“We made some adjustments at quarter-time and thankfully we got there in the end.”
The major adjustment was the move to have Lachie Kendall lock down on Narrandera’s Corey Baxter.
Baxter kicked five goals and was instrumental in Narrandera’s strong start but Kendall was able to limit his influence after quarter time.
Brent Arho kicked six goals in his best return since joining MCUE. Wesley Clark also enjoyed a top game and booted three, while Will Keogh was ever dangerous and snared four goals.
Price said the Goannas were able to move the ball forward much more effectively after quarter time.
Nick McCormack was the only injury concern for MCUE. He did not finish the game due to a bad cork.
Jarred Lane was again Narrandera’s best, while Blake Renet and Jack Grintell also played well.
