IF THERE was ever a story to ram home how lucky we are to live in Australia, and specifically our own patch of paradise here in Wagga, it is this one from this week.

On Friday, Wagga’s Yazidi community gathered as one to remember the events of August 3, 2014 when ISIS attacked Shingal in Iraq, murdering 5000 people.
The atrocities committed against the Yazidi people are not confined to that single, murderous event, often referred to as “Black Day”.
They started long before and, tragically, continue to this day.
To hear 15-year-old Eevet Hasan speak with such eloquence and courage about the unspeakable cruelty inflicted upon the Yazidi people in her homeland is heartbreaking.
To the Yazidi community here in Wagga, we say that you are safe, you are among friends and we will help in any way we can.
To political leaders at home and abroad, we say you must do more to protect the human rights of all people across the globe.
All the best for the week ahead, Ross.
