Wagga MP Daryl Maguire resigned from parliament on Friday, three weeks after quitting the Liberal Party over revelations at an anti-corruption hearing.
The Daily Advertiser understands that nominations for preselection for the Liberals have closed and the nominees include one man and three women.
The Liberal hopefuls are Snowy Valleys deputy mayor and paramedic John Larter, Snowy Valleys councillor Julia Ham, former electorate staffer Sarah Lawrance and Australian Army officer Stephanie Roe.
Liberal Party delegates are due to make a decision on which nominee to endorse during a preselection meeting on August 11.
Mr Larter had previously told The Daily Advertiser that he intended to nominate.
Ms Lawrance previously worked as a senior adviser to the NSW State MP for Drummoyne, John Sidoti, and has established herself in the Wagga area after living in Sydney.
Ms Roe has been a part of the Army for 28 years and is believed to be based at Kapooka, with defence publications stating her rank as Major back in 2010 and 2011.
On the social media site LinkedIn, Ms Roe described herself as an “experienced officer with a demonstrated history of working in the logistics and supply chain industry”.
She also stated she held a “Master of Business Administration focused in Human Resource Management from the University of South Australia”.
The National Party has agreed not to run against a Coalition candidate while the Greens and Shooters, Fishers and Farmers parties are still evaluating nominees.
Labor has announced Dan Hayes as its candidate.
