Narrandera couple David and Trish Polhill’s daughter, Rachael, has won $US10,000 on the reality TV cooking show Chopped. Her mum and dad have been sitting on the news until the episode played out in the US. It seemed the most expedient way for Rachael, an ex-Narrandera High School student, to catch up with her parents in America.

A chef, specialising in Italian cuisine, Rachael qualified in Canberra, went overseas a few years ago and now her current “day” job is at licensed Caffé Dante in New York. Established in 1915 the café, now in the managing hands of an Australian family, is rated 16th out of the 50 most highly regarded bars in the world.
Rachel’s ploy worked and, needless to say, the family are really looking forward to linking up soon.

MID-AUGUST will be busy in Narrandera. At the National Cavy Show on Saturday, August 18 (a free event), the much-loved and pampered cavies (guinea pigs) will be displayed in all their glory at the Narrandera Sports Stadium from 9am to noon. The different types of cavies have to be seen to be believed.
The National Camellia Show will showcase up to 1000 blooms on Friday, August 17 from 2pm to 5pm and on Saturday, August 18 from 10am to 1pm. Entry $5.
