Carli Jean Kulmar, known for her musical career having performed at Wagga Takes Two, has decided to take a step in a different direction.

“Some friends of mine who I know through music started in the Riverina Comedy Club and I thought I would give it a go,” she said.

“I have been thinking about it for a while and I attended a couple of workshops.”

This week will be her first comedy performance and safe to say, CJ is feeling the nerves a little.

“I am very excited though,” she said. 

“The stage isn't the concerning part, it’s what I am doing on stage.” 

CJ will be basing her set largely off her atrocious but hilarious dating escapades.

“My comedy is telling stories about my life,” she said.  

“I will tell some shorter little jokes and a main dating story which is the main chunk of my joke.

“I take everyone on my journey of my terrible dating life.” 

People don't talk about it much, but CJ said she is more willing than to share the stories of her late 30s that people can relate to. 

Her biggest challenge is her memory, she said. 

“I am used to remembering my songs, this will not have a musical background,” she said.

“I will need the brave energy to stand there and talk about my personal experiences in front of a group.” 

There has been lots of support for her foray into the world of comedy, CJ said. 

“In the Riverina Comedy Club we have really great mentors and Dane Simpson does amazing things for Wagga,” she said. 

“My friends are very supportive and can’t wait, but my family are a little hesitant and paranoid they will be talked about – which they will.”

Her stories range from a intoxicated first date who talked about their personal medical operation to a fear of being murdered by another. 

CJ said Wagga should come along and support the comedy club and see headline act Ben Knight. 

“They still will be entertained even if they don’t enjoy my set,” she joked.
