The Swans dropped outside the top eight this week for the first time since round five and are suddenly in danger of missing their first finals campaign in nine years.

Sydney has been written off since last Friday night’s loss to Essendon, their fourth loss in the past five weeks.

With games against top eight teams Collingwood, Melbourne, Greater Western Sydney and Hawthorn to finish the home and away year, Sydney are on shaky ground.

But Cunningham has told Swans fans to maintain the faith.

“You can never write the Swans off,” Cunningham said.

“We’ve got all the belief in the world to be able to turn this around.

“Footy’s a funny thing, you think you’re going alright and then you get punched in the nose and you’re on the back foot again.”

Cunningham pointed to last year to show how capable the Swans are turning things around. Sydney lost their opening six games of 2017, before winning 13 of their next 15 to play finals.

“It can all turn pretty quickly and we take a lot of confidence out of what we were able to do last year,” he said.

“You get written off but we showed we were able to turn it around with what we did last year. We’ll be looking this weekend to turn it around pretty quickly.”

Collingwood have lost two of their last three games and have been hit hard by injuries but are still sitting in third position on the AFL ladder.

“Collingwood have been a bloody good team all year so we’ve got a very good challenge in front of us and the stage is set for us on Saturday night at the SCG,” he said.
