Jenny Conkey, wife of Wagga mayor Greg, said the concert was a massive team effort and had nearly sold out both shows on Saturday.
“The last concert was in 2002. Hopefully this will be a tradition that carries on,” she said.
“We’re very lucky in Wagga as when there’s a cause announced, people come out in droves to support it, both in terms of the performers who came back to Wagga and the people who put in their money.
“I’m very proud of Wagga.”
Mrs Conkey said the concert had its costs in terms of music rights but hoped to donate a significant amount to Wagga PCYC with the help of sponsors.
The concert was a satirical tribute to the Royal Command Performance variety shows seen in the UK.
“There was a standing ovation for the all-volunteer cast of 30,” Mrs Conkey said.
