The operation with Traffic and Highway Patrol Command will focus on those who engage in driving behaviours that impact road safety.
Today, Wagga Police Inspector Peter McLay said that motorists should “expect to see extra police out and about this weekend – particularly Friday and Saturday nights”.
“There’ll be some random breath tests and drug tests,” Inspector McLay said.
“If you’re not doing the right things on our roads, then expect to get pulled over this weekend.”

He said that extra dedicated police vehicles will also be deployed during the operation, which will include rural roads surrounding Wagga.
“To work solely on curbing bad driving behaviours and to reduce our road toll,” Inspector McLay said.
“[We’re] always hopeful that people would do the right things, but there’s still evidence to suggest that there’s still quite a few drivers who think it’s ok to drink and drive and take drugs and drive.
“They’re the people who will be targeted as part of Operation Chrome this weekend.”
He also urged motorists to wear seat-belts and to not use mobile phones while driving.
“There’s evidence to suggest that these distraction devices are still having a [negative] impact on our road toll,” he said.
