Sundays in August are going to be a month of great fun and entertainment with the Wagga School of Arts production of the famous British comedy Are You Being Served?
This iconic comedy entertained audiences for many many years in Britain and the characters became household names.
Director Anna Swift thought innuendo was a Spanish word for suppository.
This opinion of course changed as the show fell into place and the comedy and fast exchange of lines and suggestions of things so odd, that at times bordered on that other place where angels fear to tread.
The cast is a group of talented actors some well known and some just finding their way into theatre.
The audience will experience every day customer service, an attempt to be part of the common market by selling German goods and staff performing a German Dance, which comes to an unusual finale when Mrs Slocombe and Captain Peacock arrive at a somewhat unexpected disagreement.
A trip to Spain to a one-star holiday resort given generously to the staff by young Mr Grace turns into a total farce with hot and cold running maids and people in the wrong tent totally mystified as to what is happening and why.
The rapid-pace comedy is filled with bizarre situations created by these somewhat odd-ball characters.
Are You Being Served, is in some peoples opinion, the best comedy to come out of England from the 1970s.
