The Giants are the big movers in the AFL premiership market on the back of six wins from their last seven games that has them into sixth spot on the ladder.
Amid the Giants’ rise, Himmelberg is enjoying his best ever season and is yet to miss a game.
The 22-year-old key forward kicked two goals in the Giants’ win over Port Adelaide last Sunday and is excited with where his team is headed.
“The plan is to go to the last weekend in September,” Himmelberg said.
“That’s what every team tries to do every year and it’s no different for us, especially now we’ve started to play the footy that we’ve known we can play all year.
“We’re starting to find that purple patch, which is pretty exciting to be honest.”
The Giants are only two points from fourth position. They also boast one of the better runs into finals with games against St Kilda, Carlton, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne to finish the home and away season.
Himmelberg said the bonus is that the Giants are getting players back at the right time of year as well.
“Also, it’s a real morale-booster when you start to get players back too,” he said.
“It’s easy to get caught up in a few boys having injuries and what not but the fact we got Toby back, (Brett Deledio) back, we get Jezza (Cameron) back the week after next, lots of boys are starting to come back from injury, which we didn’t have last year at this time.
“It just gives everyone a truckload of confidence.”
Himmelberg has stepped up in the absence of Jeremy Cameron and Jon Patton and is happy with how is season is coming together.
“I started off the season probably a little bit inconsistent early days,” he said.
“I think with Jez getting suspended and Jon going down, which was really upsetting for everyone, I’ve had some big boots to fill. The coaches have kept it basic for me as well, I just try and play my role every week.
“It’s a bit different, playing a bit taller without the other two big monsters around but I’m really enjoying it.”
