Cr Rod Kendall said he had written in Council News and to the Daily Advertiser in recent weeks on “the dreadful state of library funding in NSW.”
“It’s abysmal. NSW is the lowest-funding state in Australia on operating costs,” Cr Kendall said.
Cr Kendall said capital grants were once-off events and often far apart.
He said the cost of libraries in the state budget was a small compared to stadium support.
Cr Paul Funnell said he had fond memories of borrowing ‘Dr Seuss’ from the West Wyalong library.
“Some might think ‘it’s just a truck driving around the countryside’ but people in regional areas within our greater region don’t always have access to libraries,” Cr Funnell said.
All councillors present on Monday night voted to join the NSW Public Libraries Association and Local Government NSW’s ‘Renew Our Libraries’ initiative.
