A city northwest of Tokyo has recorded a record high temperature for Japan of 41.1 degrees Celsius.

The mercury has hit 41.1 degrees Celsius in the Japanese city of Kumagaya, the highest temperature ever recorded in the country, according to the Meteorological Agency.
