Quirk hobbled off late in the team’s surprise 17-12 loss to France in the semi-final in San Francisco.
Australia led 12-0 at half-time before being run down with the French scoring the winner after the buzzer.
They recovered to down USA in the bronze medal match.
However Quirk took no part in the 24-14 win.
Quirk missed Australia claiming the World Series title in June because of a knee problem, but recovered in time to take part in her first World Cup.
The 26-year-old was a forlorn figure after being knocked out of the gold medal match by the French.
Australia had two big wins to move through to the semis, but let their half-time advantage slip after injuries to Quirk and Ellia Green.
Co-captain, Batlow’s Sharni Williams, was pleased with how the team respond to win bronze.
“It was really hard to get up after that loss against the French and we have a young team who haven’t dealt with a lot of losses,” Williams said.
New Zealand then went on to score a 29-0 win over France to claim the gold medal to go with their Commonwealth Games gold from earlier in the year.
