The Bushpigs’ 18.13 (121) to 10.5 (65) victory opened up a two-game buffer on the sixth-placed Northern Jets, who they’ll meet next Saturday. And their sixth win of the season has CSU behind fourth-placed East Wagga-Kooringal only on percentage.
They didn’t have it all their own way at Barellan, with Matt Wells kicking the first two goals of the game for the home side before CSU powered to an 18-point lead at quarter-time.
The Two Blues then had the better of the second quarter, with some straight shooting (5.1) putting them within 11 points at half-time, with Wells already up to four goals.
The challenge didn’t stop there, as Barellan again closed to within five points midway through the third, before CSU issued a powerful reply.
The Bushpigs kicked the next eight goals, including three to Louis Miller (taking him to five for the game), to put the result beyond doubt and bring finals to within touching distance.
Lucas Hails and Rob Herzfeld led the way for CSU, along with Diarmid Cleary, Nick Wright and Miller.
Wells was the pick for Barellan while coach Will Overs was excellent at the back and Sean Ellis was his usual lively self and kicked three of their 10 goals.
