Longtime hairdresser Lisa Hill, lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2016 and her daughters and co-workers started Rainbow Day last year to raise money for cancer research.

Dakota Hair and Beauty opened their doors on Saturday and offered shampoo and blow drys for a charitable donation. 

Lisa’s daughters Anna Worland and Gina Hill said the day was a way for them to keep their mother’s memory alive and help fight cancer. 

“Tammie, who worked with mum, got in touch with us after she passed away and told us about this idea,” Ms Worland said.

“We all decided to be a part of it and it’s a special thing to do for cancer research.

“There’s lots of people who have come together today to help and make today a success and even bigger than last year.” 

Lisa worked up until the last possible moment, Ms Worland said, until she was too sick to work because of her ovarian cancer. 

“It’s great to help make a difference and feel the love from everybody,” she said. 

Gina Hill said she was pleased with how the day had turned out. 

“All the help we have had and the sponsors this year have been amazing,” she said.

“It’s awesome to honour mum and have everyone here together, it’s really special.” 

Beryl Dunn was a client of Lisa’s and she booked herself in for an appointment without a second thought. 

“She was my hairdresser for many, many years,” she said.

“I supported them last year and I wanted to do it again. It’s a great thing to be a part of.” 

Tammie Wilson, the owner of Dakota Hair and Beauty and friend of Lisa, said she thinks it’s important for the community to have events like this. 

“We are booked out today,” she said.

“We have over 70 blow drys booked in which just shows the community gets together and puts in when needed.”
