Police from Strike Force Puma observed two vehicles along the Olympic Highway, Wagga around 11pm.
Both vehicles came to a stop side by side before accelerating to speeds that police described as a “street race”.
In a social media statement, police said the drivers were speeding “well in excess of the 80km/h speed zone”.
Police stopped both vehicles, a Subaru WRX and Holden Commodore.
The drivers – a 23-year-old female and a 21-year-old male from Wagga – were spoken to in relation to street racing.
The drivers were issued with court attendance notices for street racing and other offences.
They are set to appear at Wagga Local Court in August.
Police said the Roads and Maritime Services would be notified in relation to suspending the registrations of the vehicles.
