For eight years, Oura’s annual Winter Games have beat the icy grip of the cold season, with the heart-warming competition attracting local families, friends and visitors.
Young and old are once again invited to hop, jump, spit ice, chuck boots and tug a rope as part of the day’s challenges on Saturday, July 21 from 10am.
Games organiser Den Pleming said an obstacle course would bring something fresh to the classic country-town festival this year.
Delighted villagers last year said it was the quiet, peace and the people made Oura a wonderful place to live.
Ms Pleming said annual community gatherings, like the Winter Games, were a testament to this.
She said the event brought neighbours together to “just have a go” and get to know one another.
“It’s great fun, really,” Ms Pleming said. “And the kids have a ball … and when the kids are happy parents are happy.”
She said there would be no winners or losers on Saturday, with the motto being, “Not all glory to the fastest, fittest or strongest”.
Although the event is free, money raised from the Fire Brigade’s barbecue, the CWA stall and the Progress Association “goes straight back into Oura”.
