Morris has secured a two-year deal with Canterbury Bankstown and he’s looking to be first in his family to make it in the world’s toughest rugby league competition.

Both his uncles Glendon Morris and Clifford Morris tried their luck with NRL clubs but couldn’t crack the top grade.

However the 17-year-old is looking to use the lessons they learned to make it to the big time.

“(Clifford) has taught me basically everything I know about footy,” Morris said.

“I train with him and even if he doesn’t train he trains me and points out little things like when I’m running the ball behind the ruck and a little bit of footwork around the ruck as well.

“He’s definitely being my biggest role model growing up, knowing he’s played for the Dragons, and I’m trying to follow in his footsteps, but hopefully I can go one better.”

Morris believes there has always been a healthy competition between the trio and he’s looking forward to the chance to be top dog.

“They are always talking of how good they are so I’ve got to try and match it with them,” he said.

He also credits Wests Tigers premiership player, and former Southcity coach, Daniel Fitzhenry for helping him along as well as Jermaine Packer with their roles with the Clontarf Foundation.

Morris played SG Ball with Canberra earlier in the season, but decided to link with the Bulldogs instead.

He’s excited for the opportunity.

“I’m very keen,” Morris said. “I’ll focus on finishing school here at Mt Austin then get down and get into the hard work.”

While the NRL is in his sights, the second rower has a couple of goals closer to home – he’s also looking to make his first grade debut for Southcity this season.

“I haven’t made by debut yet for my local club bu hopefully I do by the end of the year before I go,” he said.

“I’ve played for the same club for under 6s and don’t plan on going anywhere else other than here.”

Morris not the only Bulls junior to catch the eye of NRL clubs with Rhys Weldon inking a one-year deal with St George Illawarra.
