The Wagga PCYC has received a boost to their Blue Star program thanks to a $3000 donation from Wagga Police and the Rotary Club of Wagga Sunrise on Friday.
The funds were raised from the Riverina Police District’s Police of the Year event in March 2018.
On hand to receive the proceeds was Dominic Teakle, CEO of PCYC NSW, who thanked both Rotary and the police.
“Thank you, Rotary Sunrise for your service.
“The essence of Rotary is about service above self and PCYC is very much the same.
“When you think about what the police do, they’re also service above self, so there’s a union,” Mr Teakle said.
He said that Blue Star was about building new leaders of the future.
“The money will go directly to a police program to benefit youth,” Mr Teakle said.
Rotary Wagga Sunrise president Fred Loneragan said the funding would make a difference.
“We’ve already seen an enormous benefit from that program,” he said.
Similarly, Superintendent Bob Noble said it was a “small kick-along for the club to fund some of the work they do”.
“They help the police a lot with at-risk youths. That’s critical work. It’s important that we get these people engaged and save them,” Superintendent Noble said.
