The Alliance Française de Wagga has been around for more than 45 years, giving residents a way to learn the language and about the culture.
The president, Sally Taylor, said there is about 100 members.
“A lot of them travel to France and have an interest in French things,” she said.
“The aim of the Alliance Française is to promote the language around the world.”
The Alliance Française de Wagga’s 11th annual French Film Festival starts this weekend at the Forum 6 Cinemas.
The festival provides the Wagga community with the chance to see eight newly-released and well-reviewed French films, normally only shown in the capital cities.
The festival opens with a celebration of Bastille Day, French Independence Day.
Bastille Day, more commonly known as la fête nationale in France, celebrates the 1789 storming of the Bastille. It was a turning point in the French Revolution, eventually leading to the end of the monarchy.
Ms Taylor encourages anyone looking to learn more about another culture to join the Alliance Française.
“French lessons are provided,” she said.
“We also support the French choir, Chorale Franciase de Wagga.”
