In a world where it’s so easy to buy, sell and swap online with the click of a button it would be easy to think that the Wagga Swap Meet would be getting smaller.
However, the reality is the complete opposite.
The event has grown every year since starting 25 years ago and is now the third largest of its kind in Australia.
The Classic & Historic Automobile Club of Australia – Wagga Wagga Region organise the event which will host more than 900 stalls on Sunday and see more than 8000 people walk through the gates to try and find some treasure.
Trevor Garth and Brian Horsley, members of the original organising committee, reminisce about the very first Swap Meet held at the Wagga Showgrounds.
“We started with 85 sites the first year and word of mouth has helped us to grow substantially each year after that,” Mr Horsley said.
“These days, 70 per cent of sites are pre-booked from year to year.”
Although the initial idea of a Swap Meet in Wagga was to attract car enthusiasts, it has grown to incorporate all sorts of items from authentic car parts to collectibles, antiques, crafts and bric-a-brac

“There is something for everyone, a great event for browsers and buyers alike.”
“We have had an amazing run,” Mr Garth added.
“Even though the meet has always been in the middle of winter, we have never been washed out and the crowds have always turned up regardless of the temperature.”
As crowds search for bargains and stall holders showcase a variety of wares, the event aims to benefit more than just the individuals who enjoy the day with profits from the event donated to a good cause.
In the past profits have been divided by a number of local charities with volunteers estimating the event will raise close to $500,000 this year.
This year’s recipients are the Calvary Palliative Care Enhancement Council, Mia’s Big Adventure, South City Men’s Shed and The Bidgee School Wagga.
