The Sharks duo have spearheaded their side’s undefeated streak in this year’s Pascoe Cup competition, sharing 16 goals in 11 games.
Only Tolland striker Jaiden O’Brien has enjoyed more goal scoring success than the Gardners this season.
Now, the brothers will juggle club duties with a stint in the Wanderers kit and Henri is excited at the prospect of fresh opposition.
“It all started when Fred and I went down to watch a Wanderers game against Condors earlier in the year,” Henri said.
“We’ve won a few Pascoe Cups and played with a few different clubs now, so I was keen to give this a go, represent Wagga, and challenge myself at the next level.”
The brothers started training with the representative club with a view to playing in 2019 but found themselves fast-tracked into the side.
“We were all set to play next year but then we spoke to a few guys and they wanted to get us playing straight away,” Henri said.
Saturday’s clash with UNSW is expected to feature both brothers, however, Fred has already thrown himself into the Wanderers cauldron.
The 2014 Pascoe Cup Player of the Year made his debut against South Coast Flame last weekend and was impressed with the skill level.
“It was pretty good out there,” Fred said.
“But we’re still new and it’s about trying to work your way up with new players and learn how they work.”
The brothers are yet to determine where their allegiance will fall next season, however, Henri is not ruling out pursuing a dual-registration with Lake Albert and the Wanderers.
“It depends on how we go this year and a few other things, like work commitments,” he said.
“I also think it’s really important to get more local guys to play with the Wanderers,” Fred added.
We’ve got heaps of great players in Wagga so hopefully our move can open up the door for some of them.”
