Parkes has the Elvis Festival, Forbes has VanFest and Tocumwal has Strawberry Fields.
With applications for funding open, it might be time to consider starting Wagga’s own iconic event, an idea Grant Luhrs, one of the organisers behind the Stone the Crows festival, is open to.
"Finding the best idea will be a conundrum."
- Grant Luhrs
Applications for funding under the City of Wagga's Major Events, Festivals and Films Sponsorship Program opened this week.
The sponsorship supports individuals or groups wanting to host events in Wagga and funding requests for from $3000 to $40,000 per event.
Mr Luhrs said while a major festival is a good idea, there is one conundrum.
“Finding an idea that has broad appeal,” he said.
“You need a concept that will attract a lot people and that will entertain them.”
Mr Luhrs said it needs to be well-considered, but in the interim there is a lot that Wagga has to offer.
“We had Lost Lanes, the comedy festival and Stone the Crows which bring outside people in,” he said.
“With Stone the Crow, it’s about great nomads who have a motor home or caravan and that’s pretty niche. You need to have something that will get people off their butts and spending money.”
