Acting Inspector detective Philip Malligan, of the Riverina Police District, confirmed that officers arrested the male on Tuesday, July 10 for the offences of break and enter, trespassing and escape from lawful custody.
The arrest on Brooks Circle, Tolland, comes after seven arrest warrants were issued.
“These involved matters here in Wagga Wagga and regional towns, including Cowra.
“The young man has been one of our repeat offenders in Wagga,” Acting Inspector Malligan alleged.
During the arrest, police alleged the teenager assaulted a number of officers.
A 17-year-old female was also arrested and charged with assaulting police officers.
“He escaped from a house where police pursued him over several fences where he was arrested,” Acting Inspector Malligan alleged.
“Then police officers were set on by residents of that house while they were arresting the young man.”
He said the teenager’s bail address was in Cowra.
“Police have been actively searching [for] the person in Wagga because we received a number of tip offs that he was in town,” he said.
“To secure his arrest now is important for both the police – as we’ve been working hard – and the citizens of Wagga who have been dealing with this repeat crime in this community.”
The teenager was also charged with assaulting police officers and resisting arrest.
Bail was refused and he is set to appear in a children’s court on Wednesday, while the 17-year-old female is due to appear in August 2018.
