The Bulls blew Young off Harris Park in the second stanza to claim a 54-12 victory.

Southcity scored twice off clever plays from Nathan Rose in the first six minutes but then let Young back into the contest with plenty of handling errors.

The Cherrypickers made it 22-12 just after half-time before the Bulls scored the last six tries of games.

Fullback Jake Dooley claimed two of them.

He thought Southcity played with a lot more control in the second half and it showed on the scoreboard.

“The second half was heaps better and we scored a fair few tries going against the wind,” Dooley said.

“It was a lot better effort.”

After going out to an early lead against the competition cellar dwellers, the Bulls looked like wanted to score off every play.

It was something captain-coach Kyle McCarthy addressed at half-time.

“He said instead of trying to score off every play let’s just complete our sets and the points will come at the back of the half, which they did,” Dooley said. “In the first half we scored off the first two sets of the game and thought we could score every set after that but Doc (McCarthy) turned it around.”

Hayden Jeans led the way for Southcity getting through plenty of work in both attack and defence.

Dooley’s double sees him near the top of the competition’s one ahead of teammate Jack Lyons, who also crossed for a double.

Young remain planted on the bottom of the ladder but were buoyed by the surprise return of captain-coach James Woolford after be broke his arm when the two teams met last time.

They’ll be looking to score just their second win of the season when they host Albury on Sunday while Southcity have an all-Wagga clash with Kangaroos.
