Corbett has returned to the Lions team from under 18 representative commitments and made an immediate impression, booting 28 goals in four senior games.
The 18-year-old admits his form for the Giants Academy earlier in the year was far from his best and hopes his form at senior level can resurrect his chances at an AFL career.
“Definitely, I’m not giving up on it yet,” Corbett said.
“I fell a bit short of my best this year but hopefully in the next couple of years I can make a list.
“You have got to perform when you get the opportunity and my form slump didn’t help.
“The good thing these days is that all footy is getting watched by someone at least.”
Corbett played four games for the Giants Academy earlier in the year, then one trial game for the Allies and has since been overlooked for higher duties.
While enjoying him time at home with GGGM, Corbett said he would jump at the chance at some NEAFL games with the Giants reserves to prove himself at the higher level.
“Definitely, I wouldn’t turn that down,” he said.
“I don’t think there has been many spots for talls but with Jon Patton going down that might change.”
Corbett’s availability has coincided with GGGM’s turnaround in form with the Lions rising to fourth spot and knocking on the door of the top three.
Corbett is excited to be part of the Lions’ revival.
“I reckon our best footy definitely can take it up to the top teams,” he said.
“It’s just the gap between our best and worst is what we need to fix up.”
Corbett’s bags of seven, seven, five and nine have made him arguably the competition’s most influential player at age 18.
He credits the Lions’ midfield for his form.
“It’s been good but the boys are going really well. The delivery has been absolutely brilliant at the moment,” he said.
“Olsso and the two Proctors are absolutely killing it in the midfield and that’s the key to me, the delivery out of there couldn’t be any better.
“I wasn’t expecting (to kick so many goals) coming back home but this year we’ve got a lot more experience and the guys in the middle are a lot better kicks which makes my job a lot easier.”
GGGM’s form will be put to the test against Griffith at Exies Oval on Sunday. The Swans are undefeated after 10 rounds and the Lions will be without ruckman Jacob Olsson due to suspension.
