Leeton skipper Joey Fondecaro is vying to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday’s crucial showdown with Wagga United as the men out west look to tighten their grip on a finals berth.

Fondecaro and Leeton striker Adam Raso will face an injury assessment before the game to see whether they’re up for the task.
Assistant coach Joe Trifogli has his fingers crossed for the key pairing.
“We’re really hoping to have Joey and Adam back,” Trifogli said.
“We’ve got a few guys who’ll be unavailable like Nick Trifogli and Dan McKenzie, so it would be great to have those others back in the side.”
The return of Fondecaro and Raso could further boost a Leeton outfit flying high after notching three consecutive wins for the first time this season.
Trifoglit wasn’t overly impressed with their most recent showing – a 4-2 win over bottom-placed Junee at Burns Park – but said there were positives to take away from the gritty result.
“Junee were really up for it and I think we found it hard to come off the high from beating Tolland the week prior,” Trifogli said.
“That win took so much out of the boys and the fact that we were still good enough to win and beat Junee when we weren’t at our best is a good thing.
“Another positive is Anthony (Trifogli)’s form – he’s starting to put away a few more goals after a bit of a lull earlier this year and I think that combination with Erik Listmann is working well up front.”
Wagga United got the better of Leeton in their most recent outing but United coach Travis Weir is happily taking the underdog tag into Sunday’s clash.
“I’d still say Leeton are the best side we’ve played all year and they’re short favourites to get a result this weekend,” Weir said.
“It’s probably a good thing for us because it takes the pressure off us with a few boys being unavailable.”
Weir said a number of starters were unable to make the trip to MIA Sports Field but United will no doubt benefit from the return of Wanderers regulars Prince Thompson and Tyler Allen.
They’re exactly the kind of players Trifogli is hoping to shut down on Sunday.
“Both teams are going to be desperate but if we can eradicate our mistakes, we’ll go well this weekend,” Trifogli said.
“Teams haven’t really been beating us this season, it’s more a case of us making the errors and allowing them to capitalise, so we’ll be fine if we just play to Mick (Doolin)’s structures.”
