The defending premiers stuttered and stumbled in the opening half of the Pascoe Cup season, dropping games against Lake Albert, Young Lions, Wagga United, and most recently, Tolland.
However, it’s been a different Henwood Park side since their round nine capitulation to the Wolves and McKenzie believes Sunday’s win over Tumut was a turning point.
“It’s another really good result for us,” McKenzie said.
“That’s two wins in a row for us now and both of those have been on the road away from home.
“It’s all about our mentality and I think you can really sense it through the boys that there’s a bit of morale back in the side.”
The Hawks soared high above the Eagles at Bull Paddock with Carl Pideski leading the way for Henwood Park with a brace of goals.
McKenzie bagged the Hawks’ third in a 3-0 win but heaped praise upon Pideski for marshalling the troops.
“Carl’s finding form and he’s got a really level head out there for us,” McKenzie said.
“We’re just trying to get him in a position where he can direct pay and I think he’s doing that really well.”
Henwood Park now prepare to face off against ninth-placed South Wagga and the Hawks are remaining on alert.
“South Wagga have been putting some interesting results but we’re still hoping for three points out of that one,” McKenzie said.
