There were two stories this week we had the pleasure of telling that really exemplified Wagga’s emergence as a modern day multicultural society.

Alan and Gloria Cheung moved to Australia from Hong Kong in 1988 and for the last 23 years have been running the Kooringal Chinese Restaurant.
This weekend they will take their last orders before starting a well-deserved retirement.
The outpouring of goodwill towards the couple when we published this story on Wednesday was nothing short of extraordinary.
Through their good food, but more importantly good graces, the Cheungs have become a true immigration success story.
A more recent arrival in Wagga is Consolota Tumuragijimana, who has called this city her home since 2012.
Before that she spent 18 years – yes, 18 years! – in refugee camps in Tanzania before getting the chance to start a new life in Wagga.
Can you imagine the courage it took to leave her father and sister, who are still in the camp, and come to a faraway country and settle in a strangely named city?
As of Friday, Consolota can call herself an Australian citizen and we can call ourselves proud to have someone of such immense character in our community.
We hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as we enjoyed writing them.
All the best, Ross.
