Wagga City Wanderers put an end to three months of heartbreak after holding Hurstville City Minotaurs to a 2-all draw at St George Stadium on Saturday.

The Wanderers were staring at down the barrel of 13 straight defeats and started poorly against the seventh-placed Minotaurs but clawed back a two-goal deficit in a vastly improved performance.
“We fully deserved points out of that game,” Wanderers skipper Rob Fry said.
“The second half in particular was a really good battle.”
Wagga City were hoping to turn their fortunes around following last week’s devastating 2-0 loss to Hurstville FC,
However, an early defensive error inside the box saw Hurstville City convert a penalty goal from the spot in the 10th minute before the flustered Wanderers conceded a second goal in the 15th minute.

Haunted by disciplinary concerns and red cards in their last two outings, the Wanderers took care to rebuild and keep a clean defensive record.
Midfield pairing Nathan Preston and Duncan Cameron showed their class as the first half developed, taking charge for the visitors and reaping the rewards when Preston blasted their opening goal from 30 yards out.
Trailing 2-1 at the break, the Wanderers shifted gears in the second half and started creating chances deep inside Minotaurs’ territory.
Both sides traded pot shots before under 20s Wanderers regular Sam Jones stepped up for the visitors.
Finding himself one-on-one with the Minotaur’s keeper, Jones coolly slotted the equaliser to send the Wagga entourage wild.
“Jonesy did a good shift up front and I thought Duncan and Nathan … and Tyler Allen played well too,” Fry said.
