Belfast Bella ($3.50) proved she may have a big future with a dominant 4¼ length win in the William Farrer Hotel Maiden Handicap (1400m).
Belfast Bella had four starts in France before being before purchased by Gold Class Racing and sent to Matthew Dale at Canberra.
Having just her second start for Dale after a second placing at Goulburn first-up, Belfast Bella unleashed a devastating turn of foot to destroy her opposition with Kayla Nisbet in the saddle.
It was initially feared that the four-year-old chestnut mare would not make it to the races due to ongoing back problems but has appreciated time at Dale’s Moruya stables.
Dale’s racing manager Debbie Rieper believes the mare will get better with racing.
“She should get over a bit further. She’s a nice mare,” Rieper said.
Wagga trainer Gary Colvin also enjoyed success when Snippet Of Gold scored a well-deserved win in the CRS Plumbing Benchmark 65 Handicap (1200m).
Snippet Of Gold ($5.00) had been knocking on the door this preparation and broke through for his first win in 12 months.
Wodonga trainer Craig Widdison closed the gap on Trevor Sutherland in the Southern District trainer’s premiership to four courtesy of a win to Ruby Skye ($4.80).
It was the mare’s second consecutive victory after winning at Corowa last week.
Nick Souquet also enjoyed a winning double with success on Ruby Skye and Cliff ($5.00).
