Just before 11pm, emergency crews were called to put out a grass fire on Stanley Street in Kooringal.
A few minutes later, a call came in about a tree on fire in McCoullough Drive in Tolland.
Again moments later, the crew was dispatched to put out a bin fire outside the Bernadis store on Bourke Street in Tolland.
All three fires began inside a half-an-hour window. Firefighters managed to put them all out in a matter of moments, returning to the Turvey Park station before midnight.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of the three fires, but senior firefighter David Simpson is confident the incidents were arson related.
“It does look like someone was just walking up and down starting fires,” he said.
Mr Simpson said he was thankful the crews managed to contain the fires quickly, but that chasing small fires around the city can take attention away from bigger problems.
“We were only at each for about five minutes, but that is still time taken up,” Mr Simpson said.
“Luckily it didn’t take us away from bigger events, or delay our responses getting to something else on Saturday,” he said.
“But that is always the fear, that while we’re attending to these little matters, something big could be happening in the meantime and if we can’t get to it quickly then it could be disastrous.”
Mr Simpson reminded the community that even in the winter, when temperatures are not precursors to fires, a small fire can still become out of control.
“No matter the weather, a fire is a fire,” he said.
“A lot can change in just a few seconds, so we need to be ready to act when something big is happening, not running about town doing this sort of thing.”
The warnings also arrive after hazard reduction actions took place in Coolamon at the weekend.
To prepare for the incumbent bush fire season, the state’s rural fire service conducted controlled burns across 11 hectares of grasslands near Mann and Wade streets.
Mr Simpson and the Turvey Park firefighters confirmed these actions are important measures that keep the community safe and lower the threat of intense bushfires come summer.
